Chicuchas Wasi (little children’s house) is a non-profit school located in the outskirts of Cusco – a city in the middle of the Andes. Local girls often have to fend for themselves in the street and risk being exploited and sexually abused. Our main goal is to provide these little girls with primary education and guide them into a safer future.
Primary education in this area is restricted and families cannot always send their children to school, so Chicuchas Wasi’s project aims through education to increase the girls’ self-esteem, to guarantee their future financial independence and to instill in their own future children that there are choices other than poverty.
Today there are 69 students in five classrooms. We would like to extend education for third graders, who are now the older students, through sixth grade. This is because we really believe in our mission: “Educating a little girl means improving her, her family and our society’s future.”
