J557P Big Brother Mouse

Big Brother Mouse is a literacy and educational project in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos), where just a decade ago, most people had never seen a book except a textbook and often not even that. Beginning in 2006 as a project owned and run by young Lao people, with a retired American publisher as volunteer adviser, Big Brother Mouse now has published more than 100 titles. In 2008, through Big Brother Mouse, 30,000 children in Laos received their first ever book. Now, with the support of the Global Development Group and Planet Wheeler Foundation, Big Brother Mouse is setting up small village libraries in northern Laos. Libraries are launched with a village festival or school book party to help raise enthusiasm for books, and then managed by a teacher or responsible village adult.
