Ghana

Based in the Kitikpa area on the outskirts of Hohoe in the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa, the Mama Asiwome Community Development Project is supporting the Hohoe Charity School. Originally founded in 2003 as an orphanage it has now developed into a free boarding school for orphaned and underprivileged children. Focusing on equipping life skills and education as the means to end the poverty cycle, the 180 boarding and day students from disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged and empowered to fulfill their potential “moving forward with the joy of knowledge”.
The Mama Asiwome Scholarship Fund provides funds for girls, from Kitikpa, (a village with a high rate of teen pregnancy) who have completed Junior High School to go to boarding school and complete Senior High School or Vocational Training College. The high cost of Senior High School and College has meant that in the past there was no hope for these girls to continue their studies.
Australian Lindy Adam was honoured with the title Mama Asiwome Development Queen Mother of Kitikpa by the Paramount Chief of Hohoe in 2010 and lives in Kitikpa continuing her work in developing the community.
