About Afrika Tikkun
Founded in 1994, with Nelson Mandela as Patron-in-Chief, Afrika Tikkun has evolved from a charity into a
developmental organisation focusing on children from cradle to career. The project aims to transform South
African communities by caring for vulnerable children and their families in six townships.
Afrika Tikkun has developed projects that assist disadvantaged and impoverished communities in a variety of
ways in the following areas of need:
• Early Childhood Development
• Care for the elderly
• Youth Development
• Nutrition and Support Services
• Primary Health Care and Support with the emphasis on assistance to HIV/AIDS affected patients and
Afrika Tikkun also recognises that there is a need for programs that aim at building capacity, stability and
security amongst the community. Classes and workshops including home economic skills, computer
literacy, instructor training and community development are offered to adults and children alike in an effort to
move its participants to self sustainability.
