Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is Global Development Group and what does it do?
Over a billion people in poor countries around the world live in poverty and struggle every day simply to survive. Global Development Group’s work is to help improve the lives of those children, families and communities living in poverty, through the implementation of holistic, community focussed and ultimately sustainable development solutions.

Global Development Group is one of Australia's newest NGO’s carrying out projects in developing countries. In 2003 our team achieved ACFID Code of Conduct signatory status and continued the approval process, being gazetted as an ‘Approved Organisation’ by ATO/AusAID in March 2004.

As well as providing relief in some emergency situations, we work on long-term community development projects that address the causes of poverty and help people move towards self-sufficiency.

We depend on the support of the Australian public for funding. Major donors include businesses, foundations and special interest groups. Other avenues include emergency relief appeals and cash donations.

We are an organisation providing help 'without strings' and purely on the basis of need. This means that we do not discriminate on religious, political, social, cultural, age, ability (or disability) or gender grounds. Global Development Group believes in freedom, justice, peace and an opportunity for everyone.

Q. Does aid really get through?
Global Development Group accounts for every dollar received. External audits are conducted by an authorised external CPA to ASIC and ACFID requirements and are supplemented by our own internal audits.

Our financial audit processes are strict and stringent to ensure that donations are not lost or wasted. Global Development Group staff, both here in Australia and overseas, monitor and visit projects to make certain that all funds are properly used.
For full financial and audit details, please read our annual report (available on request).

Q. Can I make a difference?
Every person who supports Global Development Group’s work is making a difference in someone's life. Whether it's helping to provide the essentials to meet the basic needs of a child, their family and community through sponsorship, helping rescue children from exploitation, funding vital development work, helping people in emergency situations or participating in advocacy campaigns.

Q. Is Global Development Group Accredited?
